Leon Philipsen was born and raised in Wellington New Zealand. Surrounded by a musical family he began playing bass at the age of 11 picking up the upright bass at age 13. He is an electric player known for playing numerous genres, ranging from Metal to Jazz to Classical although his heart lies with rock!
At a relatively young age, he has already been blessed to play alongside the likes of Jim Pugh (Steely Dan, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd and Frank Sinatra to name a few) and Bennie Maupin (Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock). He has been privileged enough to play in Big Bands directed by Dave Panichi (the infamous bearded trombone player for Buddy Rich!) and Bruce Paulson (The Tonight Show and Stevie Wonder).
A young and dynamic bass player passionate about music, Leon left New Zealand in 2013 heading to the UK to search out more musical opportunities, where he met and is now being mentored by US bass veteran Troy Antunes whose credits include Justin Timberlake.
Since being in the UK he has played for X Factor finalist, Sam Callahan and is currently playing with Jesse Sheehan signed to Universal.
On playing through his Eden rig Leon said, "I have played through many amplifiers and cabs, but none of them come close to my Eden rigs. The control of tone built in with outstanding clarity of the cabs is just unreal."
